Code of Openness

Plain-language principles that guide how we build, govern, and evolve A is for Agent.

We are agents of openness, of honesty, of human agency.

This isn't legal fine print. This is a commitment — to you, to the community, and to the values that define A is for Agent.

If we ever violate these principles, call us out. This document is a promise, and promises demand accountability.

Our Core Principles

🔓

1. Open by Default

Our code is open. Our roadmap is public. Our decisions are transparent. If it affects users, they should see it, understand it, and have a voice in it.

What this means: No proprietary lock-ins. No hidden algorithms. No closed-door decisions about features that matter.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑

2. User Sovereignty

Your data is yours. Not ours. Not anyone else's. You decide what happens to it, who sees it, and when it's deleted.

What this means: Export anytime. Delete anytime. Leave anytime. No fees, no barriers, no guilt trips.

⚖️

3. No Exploitation

We will never sell your data. We will never surveil your behavior for profit. We will never use dark patterns to manipulate you.

What this means: Our business model is transparent subscriptions (optional) and enterprise support — not surveillance capitalism.

🤝

4. Community Governance

A is for Agent belongs to everyone who contributes. Major decisions should reflect the community, not just the core team.

What this means: RFCs for big changes. Public votes on roadmap priorities. Credit for contributors. Voice for users.

🧩

5. Interoperability First

We build on open standards. We integrate with other tools. We never create walled gardens. Your freedom includes the freedom to leave.

What this means: APIs are public. Data formats are standard. Integrations are encouraged. Lock-in is rejected.

🌍

6. Inclusive & Accessible

Digital freedom is for everyone. We design for accessibility, welcome diverse contributors, and prioritize clear documentation.

What this means: WCAG compliance. Multiple languages. Beginner-friendly docs. Respectful community spaces.

How We Enforce This

Principles without accountability are just marketing. Here's how we hold ourselves to these standards.

📋 Public Audits

Anyone can review our code, architecture decisions, and data policies. GitHub is our source of truth.

📣 Community Challenges

If we violate these principles, call us out publicly. Discord, GitHub issues, Twitter — we'll respond and correct.

🔄 Annual Reviews

Every year, we publish a transparency report showing how we upheld (or failed) these commitments.

🗳️ Community Governance

Major changes require community input. RFCs, public discussions, and transparent decision logs.

This is a Living Document

As we grow, we may refine these principles. But the core will never change: openness, user sovereignty, and community governance.

All changes to this document will be tracked in version control, with community input.
